500-year floodplain (or 0.2% annual chance floodplain)

The area that will be inundated by a 500-year flood event (also known as the “0.2% annual chance flood”), which has a 0.2% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. The 500-year floodplain is designated on FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Map.
