Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
The federal agency created in 1979 to provide a single point of accountability for all federal activities related to disaster mitigation and emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. FEMA administers the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). See National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Most NFIP field work and community coordination is performed by the 10 FEMA Regional Offices.
