Floodproofing, wet

Permanent or temporary measures that allow floodwater to enter portions of a structure while minimizing flood damage by using damage-resistant materials and removing damageable items from lower areas. Specific design, construction, and planning measures outlined are in Technical Bulletin 7, Wet Floodproofing Requirements for Structures Located in Special Flood Hazard Areas. With this technique, parts of the building below the base flood elevation can only be used for parking, storage, building access or crawlspace, and structures must be anchored to resist flooding, have mechanical and utility equipment elevated or protected, and have flood openings in walls.
