Retrofitting

Making changes to an existing home or other building to protect it from flooding or other hazards such as erosion, high winds, or earthquakes. A common example of retrofitting is elevating an existing structure above the design flood elevation. The term ‘retrofitting’ is often used interchangeably with ‘floodproofing.’
