Zone B

Area of moderate flood hazard, usually situated between the limits of the base (100-year) flood and 500-year flood on Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Areas protected by levees, and base floodplains that present little hazard, such as those with average flood depths of less than 1 foot, are also categorized as Zone B. B Zones may have local, shallow flooding problems. Note that on newer maps, Zone B is referred to as “shaded Zone X.”
